The Western Wall, or Kotel, is a remnant of the retaining wall built around the Second Temple's mount in the 1st century BC, and the holiest place where Jews are permitted to pray. Visitors place written prayers in the cracks between its massive stones, and above it rises the golden Dome of the Rock.
The plaza is busiest on Friday evening at the start of the Sabbath and on Jewish holidays. Jerusalem is 2 hours ahead of London for most of the year.
Live streams sometimes pause for maintenance or bad weather. We check every camera regularly and hide those that go offline.
