Budapest, divided by the Danube into hilly Buda and flat Pest, is one of the most beautiful capitals in Europe. Its riverbanks, lined with the Parliament and Buda Castle, are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Buda and Pest

On the Buda side, Buda Castle and the Fisherman's Bastion offer stunning views of the Parliament across the river. The Chain Bridge links the two sides. In Pest, St Stephen's Basilica and the grand Andrássy Avenue lead to Heroes' Square.

Baths and ruin bars

Budapest is built on hot springs. The Széchenyi Baths have outdoor pools that steam in winter, and the Gellért Baths are decorated in Art Nouveau style. The Jewish Quarter is famous for its ruin bars in abandoned buildings.
