Fajardo, on Puerto Rico's east coast, is the gateway to the islands of Culebra and Vieques and home to Laguna Grande, a bioluminescent lagoon that glows at night.
Bioluminescent bay
Kayak tours through mangroves lead to Laguna Grande, where tiny organisms make the water glow when disturbed. Cabezas de San Juan nature reserve has a historic lighthouse.
Islands and rainforest
Ferries go to Culebra, with Flamenco Beach, and to Vieques. El Yunque National Forest is close by.
