Culebra, a small island east of Puerto Rico, is home to Flamenco Beach, often ranked among the best beaches in the world, and clear waters full of turtles.

Flamenco Beach

Flamenco is a horseshoe of white sand and turquoise water. Old painted military tanks, left from Navy exercises, rust on the sand.

The island

Tamarindo and Carlos Rosario beaches are great for snorkeling with sea turtles. The small town of Dewey is the island's center.

Good to know

Culebra is reached by ferry from Ceiba in about 45 minutes or by small plane. Ferries can sell out on weekends and holidays, so book in advance. Flamenco Beach can get busy on weekends, while beaches like Zoni and Brava are quieter. Turtles are protected, so watch them from a distance when snorkeling. The island has a relaxed pace, with a few small restaurants in Dewey and no big resorts.
