Cabo Rojo, at Puerto Rico's southwest corner, has limestone cliffs, a historic lighthouse, pink salt flats and some of the island's most beautiful beaches.

The point

Los Morrillos Lighthouse stands on cliffs above the sea. Below it, Playa Sucia (La Playuela) is a stunning crescent beach. The salt flats nearby turn pink.

Boquerón

The fishing village of Boquerón is known for its lively weekend atmosphere, beach and oyster and seafood stalls.

Good to know

Cabo Rojo is about two and a half hours from San Juan by car, in the dry southwest corner of the island, where the sun shines more than anywhere else in Puerto Rico. The Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge protects the salt flats and their birds. Playa Sucia is reached by a dirt road and has no facilities, so bring water and shade. Weekends at Boquerón are lively, especially in summer, when locals arrive for oysters and music.
