Exploring the Wachau

Dürnstein is one of the jewels of the Wachau, a stretch of the Danube between Krems and Melk lined with terraced vineyards, apricot orchards and small villages. The best way to explore it is by bicycle along the river or on a boat cruise. In spring, the apricot trees blossom white, and in autumn the vineyards turn gold during the grape harvest. Melk Abbey, a grand baroque monastery on a cliff, is the highlight at the western end.
