Netanya, between Tel Aviv and Haifa, is a seaside city built on cliffs above long Mediterranean beaches, with a promenade and a lively central square.

The coast

A clifftop promenade runs along the city with sea views and parks. An elevator connects the cliffs to the beaches below, which stretch for kilometers.

The city

Independence Square, with fountains and cafés, is the heart of the city. Netanya has a large French-speaking community, and many cafés have a French feel.

Why it is worth a visit

Netanya has about 14 kilometers of beaches, many with lifeguards and facilities, separated by sandstone cliffs. A boardwalk and elevators link the cliffs with the beaches, and the promenade is a favorite place for evening walks and sunsets. The city has a large community of immigrants from France, Ethiopia and the former Soviet Union, which gives its streets a multicultural feel. Nearby, the Iris Reserve blooms purple in spring, and Caesarea's Roman harbor and theater are about 20 minutes north.
