Labuan Bajo, a harbor town on the island of Flores, is the gateway to Komodo National Park, home of the Komodo dragon, the world's largest lizard. Its bay is dotted with islands and wooden boats.

Komodo National Park

Boat trips visit Komodo and Rinca islands to see the dragons with rangers. Padar Island has a famous viewpoint over three curved bays, and Pink Beach owes its color to red coral. The waters are among the richest diving areas in the world, with manta rays.

The town

Labuan Bajo's waterfront is lined with restaurants and boats, and the sunset from Bukit Sylvia hill is beautiful.

Visiting Komodo

Most visitors take a boat tour, either a day trip or a multi-day liveaboard, to Komodo and Rinca islands to see the Komodo dragons with a ranger. Hike to the viewpoint on Padar Island for its famous three bays at sunrise.

Other stops include the Pink Beach, Manta Point, where manta rays glide below the boat, and Kanawa Island for snorkeling.

Good to know

Labuan Bajo is reached by flight from Bali. The best time is April to December; the sea can be rough from January to March.

Book tours with licensed operators and follow the ranger's instructions near the dragons. The town has a pleasant waterfront for sunset.
