Amritsar, in Punjab, is the spiritual center of the Sikh faith and home of the Golden Temple. It is also famous for its hearty Punjabi food and warm hospitality.

The Golden Temple

The Harmandir Sahib, covered in gold, stands in the middle of a sacred pool. It is open to everyone, and its community kitchen, the langar, serves free meals to tens of thousands of people every day. Visit both at dawn and at night, when the temple glows.

History

Jallianwala Bagh is a memorial to the 1919 massacre. The Partition Museum tells the story of 1947. The Wagah border ceremony with Pakistan is a daily spectacle of marching and patriotism.
