Lahti, an hour from Helsinki, is a winter sports city on Lake Vesijärvi. Its ski jumps tower over the town, and it was European Green Capital in 2021.

Sports

The Lahti Sports Center has three ski jumps and hosts World Cup events. In summer, a lookout on the largest jump offers views over the city and lakes.

The harbor

Sibelius Hall, a concert hall built of wood, stands at the harbor. Lake cruises sail from here, and paths lead along the shore.

A day in Lahti

Start at the Lahti Sports Center, where you can ride the elevator to the top of the large ski jump for a dizzying view over the city and the lakes, and visit the ski museum. Then walk down to the harbor and Sibelius Hall, where the Lahti Symphony Orchestra plays in a hall famed for its acoustics. In summer, lake cruises leave from the harbor, and the Vesijärvi shore has walking paths and a beach. Lahti is just an hour from Helsinki by train.
