Hurghada, on Egypt's Red Sea coast, is a sunny resort town known for its coral reefs, diving and beaches. It grew from a small fishing village into one of the country's main holiday destinations.
The sea
Boat trips go to Giftun Island and the reefs for snorkeling and diving among colorful coral and fish. The Hurghada Marina is lined with restaurants and cafés.
The town
El Dahar, the old town, has a local market and the Grand Mosque. Desert safaris head inland to Bedouin camps. Luxor is a day trip away.
