Dahab, on the Gulf of Aqaba, is a relaxed former Bedouin fishing village known for diving, freediving and windsurfing. Cafés with cushions line the seafront, looking across to the mountains of Saudi Arabia.

The Blue Hole

The Blue Hole is a famous underwater sinkhole more than 100 meters deep, a magnet for freedivers. The Canyon and the Lighthouse reef are other popular dive sites, many reachable from the shore.

Town

The seafront promenade runs through Masbat and Mashraba. The lagoon is popular for windsurfing and kitesurfing, and desert trips lead to canyons by camel or jeep.

Trips to Mount Sinai and the Colored Canyon leave from Dahab.

Why travelers stay longer

Dahab began as a Bedouin fishing village and became a backpacker favorite in the 1980s. It still keeps a relaxed, unhurried feel, with low buildings, a seafront promenade and cafés where you sit on cushions right by the water. Many people come for a few days and stay for weeks, learning to dive or freedive, doing yoga, or simply enjoying the view of the Saudi mountains across the Gulf of Aqaba. Camel and jeep trips lead into the desert canyons inland.
