Yanbu, on the Red Sea, is an ancient port with a historic coral-stone town and some of the best diving reefs in the country.

Old town

Yanbu's historic quarter has coral-stone houses with wooden balconies. Lawrence of Arabia is said to have stayed here during the Arab Revolt.

Sea and flowers

Reefs off the coast are rich in coral and fish. The industrial city hosts the Yanbu Flower Festival every spring.

Why it is worth a visit

Yanbu has two faces: Yanbu Al Bahr, the old port town with coral-stone houses and a heritage area, and Yanbu Industrial City, a planned city with gardens, beaches and a long corniche. The Red Sea reefs here are pristine and less visited than in Egypt, with excellent diving at sites like the Seven Sisters reef. The Yanbu Flower Festival in spring displays millions of flowers. The town is about three hours north of Jeddah along the coast.
