Tabuk, in northwestern Saudi Arabia, is an old caravan and pilgrimage stop. It is the gateway to dramatic canyons, snow-capped mountains in winter and the Red Sea coast.

The city

Tabuk Castle, restored as a museum, dates back to the Ottoman era. The old Hejaz Railway station recalls the railway that once ran to Medina.

Around

Wadi Disah is a stunning canyon with sandstone pillars and palm-fringed streams. Jabal al-Lawz sometimes gets snow, and the coast around Haql faces the Gulf of Aqaba.

Why it is worth a visit

Tabuk is the gateway to some of Saudi Arabia's most spectacular and least-known landscapes. Wadi Disah, with towering sandstone pillars and palm-lined streams, is one of the most beautiful valleys in the country. Along the coast, the Gulf of Aqaba has clear water, coral reefs and white beaches. In winter, snow occasionally falls on Jabal al-Lawz. The region is also home to NEOM, a vast planned development, and to ancient Nabataean tombs at Mughayer Shuaib.
