Siargao, a teardrop-shaped island in the southeast Philippines, is famous for the Cloud 9 surf break and its laid-back island life. Coconut palms, lagoons and white islets surround the main town of General Luna.

Surf and town

Cloud 9, a powerful reef break, is reached by a wooden boardwalk with a viewing tower. General Luna's tourism road is lined with cafés, surf shops and bars.

Island hopping

Boat trips visit Naked Island, Daku and Guyam islands. Sugba Lagoon has turquoise water for paddleboarding, and the Magpupungko rock pools appear at low tide. A drive through the coconut palm road is a classic.

Good to know

Siargao became famous for Cloud 9, a powerful reef break that draws surfers from around the world, but the island has much more: palm forests, lagoons and laid-back villages. Most visitors stay in General Luna, where cafés, surf shops and restaurants line the main road.

Rent a scooter to explore: the coconut tree viewpoint, the Magpupungko rock pools at low tide and the Maasin River with its swing are classic stops. The best surf season is September to November, while March to May has calmer seas for island hopping to Naked, Daku and Guyam islands.
