About this video

A midday walk from Ueno to Asakusa that takes the back streets instead of the subway, recorded with natural sound only. Along the way it passes small neighbourhood temples, Akiba Shrine and Sogenji, the 'Kappa Temple' named after the water spirit of Japanese folklore, before reaching Kappabashi, the long street of kitchenware and plastic food-sample shops.

The last half hour is Asakusa proper: the Rokku entertainment district, Denbōin Street, the souvenir stalls of Nakamise and Sensō-ji with Asakusa Shrine, then Hanakawado Park and Sumida Park by the river before the walk ends at Kaminarimon Gate. A good way to see the old shitamachi Tokyo between the famous sights.
