Killarney, in County Kerry, is a lively town beside the lakes and mountains of Killarney National Park. It is the start of the Ring of Kerry, one of Ireland's most famous scenic drives.
The national park
Killarney National Park has lakes, forests, waterfalls and Muckross House, a Victorian mansion with gardens. Ross Castle stands on the shore of Lough Leane. Horse-drawn jaunting cars carry visitors along the paths.
The Ring of Kerry
The Ring of Kerry is a 179-kilometer loop around the Iveragh Peninsula, with coastal views, villages and mountain passes. The Gap of Dunloe is a dramatic mountain pass nearby.
