Singapore's Chinatown is a historic district of colorful shophouses, temples and markets, where the city's Chinese immigrants first settled in the 19th century. It is also one of the best places in the city to eat.

Temples and streets

The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple is a grand five-story temple housing a sacred relic. Just down the street, the colorful Sri Mariamman Temple is Singapore's oldest Hindu temple, and the Jamae Mosque is nearby, showing the city's diversity.

Pagoda Street and Trengganu Street are lined with souvenir stalls, and the Chinatown Heritage Centre recreates life in the old shophouses. Ann Siang Hill and Club Street have stylish bars.

Visiting tips

Chinatown is especially festive during Chinese New Year, when the streets are decorated with lanterns. The MRT station puts you right in the middle of the district.
