Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan on the Volga River, is a city where Islam and Orthodox Christianity, Tatar and Russian cultures have lived side by side for centuries.

The Kazan Kremlin

The white-walled Kazan Kremlin, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, contains both the blue-domed Kul Sharif Mosque and the Annunciation Cathedral. The leaning Söyembikä Tower is surrounded by legends.

The city

Bauman Street is the lively pedestrian street, full of shops, cafés and street musicians. The Old Tatar Quarter has wooden houses and mosques. The Temple of All Religions, a building combining styles of many faiths, is just outside the city.
