Pedasí, on the Azuero Peninsula, is a peaceful colonial village near empty beaches, surf spots and Isla Iguana, a protected island with coral reefs.

The village

Pedasí has low colorful houses, a church on the square and a slow pace of life. It is the hometown of Panama's first female president.

Coast

Boats go from Playa El Arenal to Isla Iguana for snorkeling. Humpback whales pass offshore from July to October. Playa Venao, nearby, is a famous surf beach.

Why it is special

Pedasí sits on the Azuero Peninsula, the cultural heartland of Panama, where traditions such as the pollera dress and folk festivals are strongest. The village has a relaxed feel, with a few cafés and guesthouses around its plaza. Playa Venao, 30 minutes away, is one of the best surf spots in Panama. From July to November, olive ridley turtles nest on Isla Cañas, and humpback whales can be seen offshore. Isla Iguana's reef is among the largest on Panama's Pacific coast.
