About this video

Unlike most videos on this site, this one is a narrated guided tour: a local Paris guide explains what you are seeing as you go. It starts at Place Saint-Michel, enters the Latin Quarter to look at the remains of the Roman baths and the medieval streets, then visits the Gothic Church of Saint-Séverin and talks about the area's literary and jazz history.

Next come Paris's oldest church and oldest tree beside the river, the view of Notre-Dame, the Shakespeare and Company bookshop, and a crossing onto the Île de la Cité past the Conciergerie to Pont Neuf, the oldest bridge in the city. Ideal if you want to understand the history, not just see it.
