Kutná Hora, east of Prague, grew rich from silver mining in the Middle Ages and once rivaled Prague in importance. Its historic center and churches are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Churches and the ossuary
The Sedlec Ossuary is decorated with the bones of tens of thousands of people, including a chandelier and a coat of arms made entirely of bones. St Barbara's Church, dedicated to the patron saint of miners, is a gothic masterpiece.
Silver
The Italian Court was the royal mint where silver coins were made. You can visit a medieval silver mine in the Czech Museum of Silver.
