Puerto Iguazú, in the province of Misiones, is the Argentine gateway to the Iguazú Falls. About 80 percent of the falls are in Argentina, and walkways lead right to the edge.

The falls

Iguazú National Park has the Upper and Lower Circuits, with walkways among the falls, and a little train to the Devil's Throat, where water thunders into a huge horseshoe. Coatis, toucans and butterflies are everywhere.

The town

The town has the Hito Tres Fronteras, a viewpoint where three countries meet at the rivers, and a craft market. The rainforest surrounds everything.

Seeing the falls

On the Argentine side, the Devil's Throat walkway leads to the edge of the largest waterfall. The Upper and Lower Circuits take you along and below the falls.

A small train links the trails.

Good to know

The town is small and relaxed, with the Triple Frontier viewpoint.

Full moon walks to the falls are offered on certain nights.

Planning your visit

Give the Argentine side of Iguazú at least a full day: the Upper Circuit runs along the top of the falls on metal walkways, the Lower Circuit brings you close to the spray and gives wide views, and the train ride to the Devil's Throat ends with a walkway right above the thundering water. Speedboats take visitors under the falls for a drenching. The town itself has a relaxed atmosphere, a craft market and the viewpoint where the Iguazú and Paraná rivers divide Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay.
