Puno sits at 3,800 meters on the shore of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. It is the folklore capital of Peru and the base for visiting the lake's islands.

Lake Titicaca

The Uros people live on floating islands made of totora reeds. Taquile Island is known for its textiles, knitted by the men. Boats leave from Puno's port.

The town

The Plaza de Armas has a baroque cathedral, and Jirón Lima is the main pedestrian street. The Candelaria festival in February is one of the largest in South America.
